when i get bored...

When I get bored, I start painting or rearranging furniture! I need constant change and my never-ending desire to be crafty loves it!

Today I decided to make over my large wall mirror.

This is the previous color I had painted it.

I loved the color but in November I bought an area rug, and this shade of blue was kinda clashing with it.

This is my new area rug!!

{this is looking down from the second story loft}

I LOVE it!! We have an open floor plan on our main level, so this really helps define the space that is our living room. Plus it is much easier to vacuum this rug, then have to keep the wood floors shiny and crumb free!

I sold this china cabinet I refurbished to be able to afford the rug!

So today I finally decided to lug that heavy mirror off the wall and paint it.

I went with red because it is already an accent color in my house and the rug has red in the flowers as well.

I had a can of CeCe Caldwell's Sedona Red on hand so I used that. It is sort of a rusty-burnt red.

This is what one coat looks like (before the wax).

You can see below how the wax darkens the color

I was using "red brick" as my inspiration! I love {as in: I am a little obsessed} with red brick. My dream is to one day live in a red-brick house! And if I am not lucky enough for that, I at least want a red front door.

I wanted a very uneven, rustic look with the blue showing through as well.

After waxing the entire mirror, it still wasn't as deep of a red as I wanted. So I busted out my handy dandy magical Martha Stewart glaze in Black Coffee. Love this stuff!!

I painted it in all the cracks and corners and randomly on the sides. I used a staining sponge to blend and buff in the glaze. And then I lightly distressed with a fine sanding block.

And finally ended up with this...!

Its hard to see the distressed blue peeking through in the pictures, but it's there.

Much better than the bright blue!

It's a good thing I don't have much free time to get bored, otherwise my husband would come home to different home every night! ;)
